The elementary students are continuing to work on ceramic clay. The vast majority of them absolutely love it! This of course makes me very happy since ceramic clay is by far my favorite artistic medium.
1. This morning, one of the little girls (third grade?) came over and said, "you're a good art teacher." Then she gave me a semi hug. Aw, how cute is that?
2. I quizzed my second graders on the steps of pinch pot making* while they were lined up after class today. When one student was asked for one of the steps, he said, "CHINA!" It was hard not to laugh. I told him China is a country and was one of the first to have pottery, but it is not a step in making a pinch pot. He had a second chance later on and got the step correct that time. lol! :)
3. Another of the second graders made a whole tea set with her clay. It was truly adorable!
*make a ball (some of them called it a circle), stick your thumb in it (a hat for your thumb), pinch it until it looks like a nest, pot, cup, etc.
